Biography

Originally from New Jersey, Christian Acker has resided in New York City since 1998. Raised on a steady diet of soccer, skatebaording, punk rock, ska, Hardcore, oi! and other derelict but mostly harmless behavior, Christian cut his teeth on a photocopier before getting access to the tools of a designer. He still prefers a process of mixing analog with digital methods of creation.

Christian studied Communication Design at Parsons School of Design, where he graduated in 2002, with honors. A soild mix of history-steeped design understanding and practices, with a methodology and thought process that fuels his unique design process to this day. In the shadow of the recent tragedy of September 11, 2001, Christians love for New York was consumated. At that time there was not much work to be found for a young designer with a penchant for tattoos, graffiti and typography so it necessitated self generated projects as a creative outlet. To this day the
Handselecta Project takes up most of his free time.

After making a name for himself freelancing around New York, mostly doing identites, logos and custom display typefaces, Christian found himself at the infamous Zoo York Institute in 2004. For the past 6 years, Christian has been part of a fantastic and talented team of designers who get to represent the best part of the best culture of the best city in the world, where he currently resides as Senior Art Director. Zoo York is the largest skate company on the east coast, and during his time there the business has grown by 6 fold.

Christian currently resides in Queens, New York with his wife, Emma and their 3 children.
